NZ beat ENG– Highlights: Kane Williamson’s New Zealand avenges 2019 WC defeat to enter FINAL, kicks England out of T20 World Cup
Put into bat England posted a good total of 166/4 on the back of Moeen Ali’s fifty and Dawid Malan’s 46 in the first semi-final here in Abu Dhabi. With No Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow came up the order and started the innings with Jos Buttler. Both the openers added 37 runs for the first wicket before Adam Milne removed Bairstow in the sixth over to provide the first breakthrough to the Kiwis. Buttler and Malan steadied the innings before Ish Sodhi got rid of the in-form Joss Buttler. At the halfway mark, England’s score read 67/2 with Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali at the crease.

Glenn Phillips (2) was the second wicket for Livingstone and England was in firm control with New Zealand at 107/4 in the 16th over.

Changes – England: Sam Billings comes in place of J Roy. Jonny Bairstow will pair up with J Buttler to open the innings
Changes – New Zealand: Same team.
Tim Southee: “It’s been a while since 2019, so we haven’t talked anything about it. It’s a different format for a start and a different group of guys. We are just excited to be here. You are into a tournament hoping to be here at the latter stages, hopefully, we can continue the form we have shown in the previous weeks. The experience of the guys, we were dealt with a blow early on with Lockie Ferguson ruled out. Having Adam Milne come in, hasn’t played a lot of international cricket in recent years, but he’s had a good season in England playing in the Hundred and County. It’s great to have some experience in the bowling unit. As a group, we have adapted to the conditions. All three grounds have offered different challenges and we’ve been able to assess that”
Eoin Morgan: “Roy misses out today, obviously he’s disappointed because he’s played a big role for us in this tournament, and to miss out on a semi-final is devastating. However, Billings gets another chance. He’s been doing the hardwork and carrying the drinks for us, and it’s a big opportunity for him. Bairstow will open today, instead of Roy, since he’s done it really well in the past. We can’t take New Zealand lightly at all, they’ve been playing semi-finals and finals for a lot longer than we have, so we’ll have to play out of our skins to beat them. Looking forward to a great contest today.”
Kane Williamson: “We’re bowling first. It’s a good pitch but a bit of dew later. We’re going in with the same team. Busy period for us, and we’ve come through, giving in good performances. The two most experienced bowlers have bowled beautifully throughout the tournament, and after Lockie, Milne has come in and done well too. England has a lot of depth, that’s their strength, and we have the opportunity to play our own brand of cricket to make it to the final.”
Toss Update: New Zealand have won the toss and have opted to bowl first.
