Team India’s winning juggernaut was ended on Sunday as they lost to Australia in IND vs AUS World Cup final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Team India captain Rohit Sharma, star batter Virat Kohli and few other Indian players were in tears after the heartbreaking defeat. Before the start of the post-match ceremony, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was seen consoling the players.
It was a complete performance from the Pat Cummins-led side as they ended hosts’ 10-match winning streak with a 7-wicket win. The loss was a hard one for the Men in Blue as many Indian players were seen in tears after the game.
Team India, who were favourites coming into this game, were outplayed by Australia in all departments. After being put to bat, the Indian cricket team faltered on a tricky pitch and were restricted to 240 in 50 overs.
For India, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored half-centuries, while Rohit Sharma slammed 47 off 31 balls. In reply, despite losing 3 wickets early, Australia reached the target comfortably. Travis Head was the top-scorer with a 120-ball 147.
We were not good enough: Rohit Sharma
After the loss, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that they weren’t the best team in the final. “The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn’t supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets,” Rohit Sharma said after the match.
