With less than three months to go, the World Cup 2023 fever has hit India. While there is no information yet on the availability of World Cup 2023 tickets, fans have in large numbers already booked their accommodation in host cities. The WC 2023 Schedule sees games in 10 cities, booming the hotel business. This is despite the hotels charging more than 20 times their usual tariff for the selected dates.

Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamshala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune are the 10 cities where the competition will take conducted. Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati will host warm-up matches between September 28 to October 3. A high number of bookings have already taken place. Many are expected to be sold out during the World Cup 2023.

“This is the World Cup, and we anticipate 100 per cent occupancy during these dates,” said Abinash Ashok, associate vice president, of Suba Group of Hotels told MoneyControl. The group runs a chain of budget hotels under the Click Resorts brand

The India vs Pakistan match is naturally the biggest draw. With a capacity of more than 100,000, Ahmedabad is gearing up for its biggest game ever. The World Cup final will follow should India make it, but the excitement for the IND vs PAK game is clear.

“We have already got room bookings for the India-Pakistan match dates at our Ahmedabad hotel. Enquiries and bookings are also started for our hotels in Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata. It is expected that most hotels in these cities will get sold out on match dates,” said Kevin Ashley Martis, general manager, sales and marketing (Western India), The Fern Hotels & Resorts told Money Control.

20 times hike in tariff for India vs Pakistan

For the India-Pakistan match on October 15, hotel rates are 20 times higher. Rooms are costing more than Rs 59,000 as opposed to Rs 2,086 on July 4. The rate for the Indian-Pakistan match date is roughly Rs 75,000 for a night at other hotels like Pride Plaza. The same rooms in July are available for Rs 4,000. According to reports, ITC’s Welcomhotel will charge Rs 72,000 on October 15 for a room that is currently available for Rs 5,699 instead.

While the hotels are experiencing increased demand, there is still silence on the matter of World Cup 2023 tickets. State associations have begun releasing ticket prices for the event, but no information on purchases is available.

The BCCI and ICC are expected to release the information sometime in July. The schedule was announced on June 27 and two weeks later there still remains uncertainty.
