Tottenham Hotspur took on Newcastle United in a battle to gain a spot in the Champions League qualifier zone. Tottenham were already in a declining form since the beginning of March. They sacked their manager Antonio Conte, but that did not resolve the situation.

Spurs were already in the 5th position and if they were to defeat Newcastle today, they still would’ve stayed in the same position in the league table. However, they would’ve had some hope to get back into form. That hope didn’t only get shattered, but they also got humiliated in the process.

Spurs new interim coach Cristian Stellini decided to experiment with the back line. He decided to abandon the back three format to back four. Right-back Cristian Romero joined Eric Dier in the center. The coach introduced Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic in the right-back and left-back positions respectively when they have only ever played as wing-backs.

This experiment turned out to be a disaster as the defense left plenty of space for Newcastle attackers to take their time, take a sip of afternoon tea, then score a goal. It took them less than 22 minutes to score 5 and get their name on the list of three teams who have managed to get the biggest halftime leads in the history of the Premier League.

Football fans around the world took to Twitter to shred apart the already humiliated side with some more jokes and memes. One wrote, “Still laughing at that Tottenham game man. Everytime I looked away they scored.” While another wrote, “Between Tottenham & Chelsea!!!! The race is on to the title of being the worst club in London.”

Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy managed to open the scoresheet within the 2nd minute of the game. Murphy scored a brace as he netted again in the 9th minute into the game. Alexander Isak scored a brace as well in the 19th and 21st minutes while Joelinton and Callum Wilson also managed to get on the scoresheet. Harry Kane scored the only goal from Spurs side as some consolation.
