Manchester City are desperate to retain their star skipper Ilkay Gundogan. Manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that the club is trying their best to keep the German midfielder

Gundogan Transfer: The time is not up for Ilkay Gundogan at Manchester City. Pep Guardiola has gone on to reveal that Man City are trying their best to tie down the skipper with a new contract. Gundogan’s contract expires in the summer and the German midfielder is tipped to join Barcelona as a free agent. However, City continue to push and offer the player a new contract.

The 32-year old midfielder has been in tremendous form over the past couple of seasons and have been instrumental winning the Premier League and the FA Cup. His brace against Manchester United yester proved decisive as the Cityzens went on to pick their second trophy of the season.

It will be tough job for Pep Guardiola to replace Gundogan who has stepped up and proven himself to be a clutch player in important games. He managed to score 11 goals and provide 7 assists in this season across all tournaments.

Following a 2-1 FA Cup Finals win against arch rivals Manchester United, Pep Guardiola claimed that Manchester City are yet to give up on their skipper.

“He knows what I think,” Guardiola said. “Txiki [Begiristain, football director] is working on it. Hopefully he can be successful.”

“I feel very appreciated at the club,” Gundogan told beIN Sports. “I have never been at a football club for seven years. So, I think that shows how much I love this team, the manager and I love this club. We will see what’s going to happen.”

Pep Guardiola has never shied away from admitting that he ants Ilkay Gundogan to continue at the Manchester Blues. It however remains to be seen what the German midfieler decides next. As for Barcelona, the Spanish giants are waiting to get their financial plans approved before going for their targets.
