French Open Semifinals LIVE: Rafael Nadal advances to final as Alexander Zverev suffers horrific injury that ends his French Open campaign

Rafael Nadal in Finals: Playing under the roof at the Court Philippe Chatrier, in a three-hour physical clash, both players looked to dictate with their heavy-hitting as they pulled each other around in front of a vocal crowd.

Nadal, who is celebrating his 36th birthday, was attacked right from the start by Zverev who showed his aggression throughout the match and kept on challenging the 21-time Grand Slam winner. He broke the Spaniard’s serve straightaway and was leading the set 4-2 before Nadal came from behind and broke Zverev to level 4-4.

From then on, it was a neck-to-neck battle between both the players which went into the tie-breaker. Zverev dominated in the tie-breaker too with a lead of 6-2 and had four set points. But Nadal, battled back from 2-6 to clinch a mammoth first set after one hour and 31 minutes.

The 91-time tour-level titlist then showcased his fighting qualities in the second set, rallying from 3-5 in the second set to force what would have been another tie-break. Battling to hold his serve and take the set to the tie-breaker, Nadal was leading 40-30 at 6-5. Zverev attempted a backhand winner by running to his right but twisted his ankle and fell on the ground.

He was holding his right ankle and cryed out in pain as physios rushed to give treatment. After receiving initial mediacal attention he was taken off the court on a wheelchair. He soon returned back to the court on crutches and confirmed his withdrawal from the contest.

With that, Nadal has advanced to the final and is now aiming to capture his 14th Roland Garros crown and record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title this weekend at the clay-court major. If Nadal overcomes Casper Ruud or Marin Cilic in final on Sunday, he will eclipse countryman Andres Gimeno and become the oldest champion in tournament history.
