Naagin Dance? No Chance: Star Sports faces backlash for absurd IND vs BAN promo

Star Sports is facing backlash from Bangladeshi fans for IND vs BAN World Cup promo, calling it derogatory and immature.

India vs Bangladesh: The battle between the two neighbours has often been dull and one-sided. But not anymore. In the last four matches against Bangladesh, India have lost three and won only one ODI. In fact, Bangladesh are the only second team to beat India in a bilateral ODI series in the last 12 months. Yet, the official broadcaster of Cricket World Cup 2023 Star Sports has decided to release a promo for IND vs BAN clash, where it claims Bangladesh have never heard the word win in India and never will. While the claim holds truth, Bangladeshi fans are not so happy.

In fact, it was Bangladesh who knocked India out of World Cup 2007. And most of the matches have been closely fought, including the one in Asia Cup 2023 where India lost. Hence, fans did not like Star Sports’ jibe of “Naagin Dance, No Chance”. The promo caption read: “Can Bangladesh finally win a match against India, or will Team India fans celebrate another victory?” And fans are upset with the word “finally” as Bangladesh are leading 3-1 in the last four games.

But when it comes to the record at home against Bangladesh, India are 3-0 up in ODIs. Overall in all three formats, Bangladesh have only beaten India once in T20s.

Despite barely improving in the last two decades, Bangladesh are still a formidable side at home. However, not so much outside. But with the recent records giving Bangladesh an edge, India must be careful against their spin threat.

Fans unhappy

One of the fans pointed out that the world “finally here” did not make sense as Bangladesh have had the edge over India of late.
