Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith has wished for former India captain MS Dhoni to be a part of the new SA20 League. Smith, who is the commissioner of the league, hopes that the current CSK captain can join up with the ‘mini IPL’. to note, all franchises of the SA20 are owned by IPL teams. CSK themselves have a team, with ownership of Joburg Super Kings.
“It would be amazing to have a player like him. But as I have previously said, we always work with and respect the BCCI. The fact that we have created such a nice working relationship with them. We have been able to talk to them and learn from them,” said Smith.

“But one thing we really wanted to build was a young and vibrant and really competitive cricket league. And someone like an MS would of course add a lot of value to our league. He has been able to perform and maintain performance for a very long time in this profession. He would bring a level to the league that we will be proud to have. But if there is ever an opportunity I would definitely be reaching out to Mahi,” he added.

Earlier, there were rumours that the CSK skipper might join the SA20 side Joburg Super Kings’ coaching setup. However, the speculations eventually proved to be wrong. To note, BCCI doesn’t allow its players to participate in foreign leagues without ending all their ties with Indian cricket, including the IPL.
Dhoni is still the captain of CSK in the IPL ruling his participation in any other league. Recently, Dhoni’s colleague Robin Uthappa announced his retirement from all forms to join the ILT20. Yusuf Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Pravin Tambe and Zaheer Khan have all participated in overseas leagues in the past.

Meanwhile, Dhoni sweated out in the training session ahead of the start of the IPL 2023 season. The CSK skipper had extensive batting session and concentrated on power hitting. Over the past two years, the wicketkeeper’s batting skills have waned. Dhoni is no more considered a fearsome batter. For the same, the 41-year-old is keen to get back his mojo and hit the training session. The veteran batter had a decent net session as flexed his muscles with the bat.
