Dhoni has participated in each IPL season to far. He assumed control of CSK in 2008 and held the position through 2015. For the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons, he moved to Rising Pune Supergiants. When CSK entered the league again in 2018, they re-signed Dhoni. Prior to the start of the IPL 2022, he did resign as CSK’s captain, but after Ravindra Jadeja failed as captain, he took over again.

Before IPL 2024, the IPL icon is anticipated to make a decision about his future, and Dhoni may quite well call it quits following 250 appearances. Rohit Sharma, who has appeared in 243 games, is in second place. Following Dhoni on the list are, in order, Dinesh Karthik (242), Virat Kohli (237), and Ravindra Jadeja (225). Next season, Rohit and Kohli will play in more than 250 matches in the IPL.
