Most Test Runs 2022: Joe Root vs Babar Azam: In Test matches so far in 2022, Joe Root has scored 1069 runs with the help of five centuries and two half-centuries in 24 innings he has played throughout 13 matches, averaging an excellent 50.90. Root scored 96 runs in the first Test to cross the 1000-run mark.
Babar’s stats, however, are on an entirely different level as the Pakistani batter only took 11 innings over the course of six matches to amass 801 runs, including three hundreds and four half-centuries, at an astounding average of 72.81. He needs 268 runs to surpass Root’s record for most Test runs in 2022 as he currently sits in the fourth spot. It will be interesting to see if the gap narrows or widens in the upcoming Test. Babar will have to score more than 268 runs in the game in addition to the runs Joe Root will score in the following Test, and it won’t be a simple assignment for the Pakistan skipper.
Joe Root is closely followed by teammate Jonny Bairstow who is just nine runs behind. Usman Khwaja, on Thursday, became the first Australian player in three years to score 1,000 runs in a Test cricket season. Khawaja accomplished the feat on Day 1 of the second Test, a pink-ball match between Australia and West Indies at Adelaide Oval when he passed the score of 40.
