Babar Azam registered his fourth Test ton of the year on Monday at Karachi. He is currently unbeaten with 119 runs to his name as Pakistan have gone into Tea on Day 1 of the first Test match.

The 28-year old did it in style as he went on to score his ninth Test ton in his career. He now has 1128 runs to his name in 2022. He accumulated the runs in just nine Test matches and has a healthy average of 75.20.
Meanwhile, former England skipper Root has scored 1098 runs from 15 matches. It includes five hundreds and two half-centuries, at a healthy average of 45.75. Root however is likely to lose his spot at the number 2 as he is closely followed by Usman Khawaja.
Khawaja is just 18 runs behind Root. The Australian opener has 1080 runs from 11 matches so far. With Australia currently playing the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, Khawaja is expected to surpass Root and even fight for the top spot with Babar Azam.

Marnus Labuschagne too is not far away. With 948 runs to his name, he is at the fourth spot in the race at the moment. England’s Jonny Bairstow meanwhile occupies the third spot with 1061 runs. However the wicket-keeper batsman is out of the race as he is currently recovering from an injury.
With his innings, Babar Azam too has created another record. He now has scored the most runs by a Pakistan batter in a calendar year across formats. The 28-year old went past Mohammad Yousuf’s tally of 2435 runs.
