Williamson yet again showed that he does not melt under pressure, but instead thrives on challenges. This was Williamson’s fourth Test ton in the fourth innings, and he has equaled Sunil Gavaskar, Graeme Smith, Ricky Ponting, and Ramnaresh Sarwan. The former New Zealand captain is now only one Test hundred behind Younis Khan, who leads the list with five tons in the fourth innings. The 27th Test century of Williamson came on the back of very trying circumstances, as the right-hand batter lost his grandmother just before the start of the first Test.
The team man that Williamson is, he came to play the Test and delivered the knockout punch on the Lankans. The right-hand batter initially played cautiously, before shifting gears seamlessly, and taking the team home in the last over of the match. The Asian side who had to win this Test to stay alive in WTC final race are now knocked out. India are through to play the second final and will face Australia in the summit clash on June 7.
