And as a matter of fact, the two of the greatest footballers of modern times, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are ahead of him.
As far as the tally for the active goal scorers in International football goes, Cristiano Ronaldo tops the charts with 117 goals. Lionel Messi has 86 goals under his belt and now Sunil Chhetri has 84 goals. The fight for the second spot between Messi and Chhetri has been quite close, and the Indian skipper is quite within a touching distance to overtake the Argentine superstar.

After the match Sunil Chhetri said, “Feels Good, but you have to carry on. I genuinely don’t care about records. I just want to enjoy myself as I move on to the last moments – just go out and enjoy on the pitch.”
Sunil Chhetri bagged his 84* goal at the International level in sublime. Right near the end of the first half of the game, defender Suresh was fouled some yards out of the box. Upon finding the ball inside the box from a Jeakson Singh pass, Sunil slotted the ball into the back of the net while the HongKong goalie watched on.
