Nadal’s progress into the finals and then winning it was no ordinary feat. Coming back from a foot injury that almost cost his career, this has been an exceptional achievement for Rafael Nadal.
It was a hard-fought victory for the Spaniard as he battled against World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev in a gruesome 5-hour battle. Nadal won 2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 in a five-hour battle to create history.

Since 2009, Nadal’s rival Roger Federer has jointly or individually led the tally for the most number of Grand Slams which came to an end on 30th January as Rafael Nadal took the top spot after achieving 21 Grand Slam Majors.
Federer surpassed Pete Sampras in 2009 and after winning the Australian Open in 2018, Federer registered his 20th Grand Major. Nadal last won his Grand Slam in 2020 after the French Open which put him at level with Roger Federer.
Novak Djokovic who was trailing behind in the majors tally made up quick spots after winning three Grand Slams in 2021. Nadal would be targeting the Roland Garros 2022 next in hopes of achieving his 22nd Grand Slam.
