Anderson’s Golden Arm does the trick –
James Anderson initially faced a fitness issue to be part of the Edgbaston Test, but he made it to the Playing XI. Anderson then repaid the faith of team management as he turned out to be a nightmare for India on Day 1.
By the time he scalped Shreyas Iyer in the 28th over, half of the Indian side was in back in the pavilion. Alongwith Iyer, Anderson got the better of both the Indian openers- Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara to set the tone.

Anderson completes the Fifer on Day 2-
- While it was an easy walk in the park for the 39-year-old in first two sessions of Day 1, it was not the case for the rest of the day.
- Anderson had to wait for Day 2 to complete the fifer. First he scalped the impressive Ravindra Jadeja on 104 and then followed it up with Mohammed Siraj to end the Indian innings on 416.
- His accomplishments now see him close on Rangana Herath (34) and Anil Kumble (35) for most fifers.
- Anderson has the most fifers for England in Test cricket and stands sixth in the overall standings.

Anderson’s career in numbers-
- As things stand Anderson holds the record for most wickets by a fast bowler with 656 wickets to his name, third overall.
- With 32 fifers and still an active player, Anderson has the golden opportunity to chase the likes of Herath and Kumble.
- The likes of Richard Hadlee (36) and Shane Warne (37) are also not far as Anderson would fancy his chances to close the gap.
- Interestingly, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin is also part of the contingent as he too is 30 fifers, however, he will have to wait for a while as he is not part of the Edgbaston Test.
