Most Expensive Over IPL: Gujarat Titans’ left-arm pacer Yash Dayal registered an unwanted record on Sunday, 9th April. Playing against Kolkata Knight Riders, the pacer was hammered for five successive sixes off the last over by Rinku Singh that helped the two-time champions pull off an improbable victory in the IPL. Dayal also leaked 69 runs in his quota of four overs in the match. This is he second most expensive runs conceded by a bowler in four overs in the history of the Indian Premier League. Chasing a total of 205, KKR needed 29 runs off the last over. 25-year old Dayal was entrusted with the duty off bowling the final over for Gujarat Titans. He conceded just a single in the first ball. With 28 needed off the last five deliveries, it required a miracle to take KKR over the line. In a dramatic turnaround, Rinku Singh smashed the next five deliveries out of the park to take his team to a marvellous victory.

Having conceded 31 runs in the final over, Dayal returned with figures of 0/69 from his four overs. This is the second worst bowling figures ever by a bowler in the history of IPL. Basil Thampi leads the list as the former Mumbai Indians pacer conceded 70 runs in 4 overs in 2018.

Rinku Singh’s blast in the final over is also the most number of runs recorded in the final over of an innings in successful chases in the history of the IPL. The previous best was a 23 runs scored off the last over by MS Dhoni in 2016, while playing for Rising Pune Super Giants. He got his team to victory by smashing those runs against Axar Patel, who played for Kings XI Punjab back then.

With the bloss, Gujarat Titans suffered their first defeat of the season. The defending champions will next face Punjab Kings on Thursday 13th April. The match is scheduled to be played at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.
