Injury trouble is brewing for India Cricket Team after Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury. Another India all-rounder is struggling with a niggle. And it’s Ravindra Jadeja. The irreplaceable spin allrounder is suffering from a knee injury that kept him out of T20 World Cup 2022. Although he underwent surgery and seemed to be back in prime fitness, the knee seems to be troubling him once again. Ahead of IND vs NZ (India vs New Zealand) Cricket World Cup clash, he was seen applying ice pack on his left knee during India vs Bangladesh game.
However, the injury is not serious and it is unlikely that he will miss the IND vs NZ clash like Hardik Pandya. But a senior BCCI official confirmed that he will be rotated at some point during the Cricket World Cup.
“Jadeja is fine. When you have surgery, you need long-term care. Knee injuries are such that they tend to hurt back. That is why he was applying an ice pack. There is no immediate concern regarding his niggle. The medical team and the physios are keeping a tab on all the players including Jadeja,” the official told InsideSport.
Will Ravindra Jadeja be rested?
Despite the injury concern, Ravindra Jadeja will be available in IND vs NZ clash on Sunday. However, with high workload, he is likely to be rotated in the later stages, most likely against the Netherlands.
Jadeja has been India’s go-to white-ball spinner and he offers not just left-arm spin but also batting as well as exceptional fielding. Such 3-D players are crucial for India to win the Cricket World Cup.
Hence, depending on how it goes, India will rest Ravindra Jadeja once the semifinal spot is sealed. Ravindra Jadeja has already scalped 7 wickets in four games even though he hasn’t had to bat.
“It’s up to the team management whether they want to rotate the squad. But with crucial matches coming up, Jadeja is very important player for us. Maybe, once the semifinal spot is sealed, there could be rotations to keep the players fresh for knockouts,” the official added.
