After Asia Cup 2023 Final heroics vs Sri Lanka, Mohammed Siraj becomes new number 1 ODI bowler. This is fantastic news for the Indian ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023.
Mohammad Siraj has reclaimed the top spot among bowlers in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings following his incredible six-for-21 performance against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final in Colombo.
Siraj initially rose to the top slot in January of this year before being replaced by Josh Hazlewood in March. Mohammed Siraj has climbed eight spots as a result of his remarkable performance, which allowed India to defeat the hosts by 10 wickets by dismissing them for only 50 runs.
In the most recent weekly update, which takes into account performances in the final two games of the South Africa versus Australia series and the England versus New Zealand series aside from the Asia Cup, South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj is another significant mover. This update comes just over a fortnight before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
After losing the first two games of the ODI series, Maharaj helped South Africa win the last match and go on to end with eight wickets, 10 more than his previous career high. He also helped South Africa become the fifth side to win a five-match ODI series.
Afghan spinners Mujeeb-ur Rahman (up two spots to fourth) and Rashid Khan (up three spots to fifth) are two more bowlers who have risen in the rankings. Chris Woakes, an all-rounder for England, has moved up to position 11, while Lungi Ngidi, a South African, is now in place 21.
