Miffed HS Prannoy shifts base from Kerala to Tamil Nadu due to ‘poor treatment’

The WR-7 HS Prannoy has been India's best singles player this year, and won a bronze medal at the Asian Games too.

For now, everything seems to be going in shuttler HS Prannoy’s favour. Ever since he hit form at the start of the year, he has won tournaments and has brought medals at the World Championships, and now the Asian Games. But one thing that still eludes him is the support from the local badminton association, the Kerala Badminton (Shuttle) Association. As per a report in OnManorama, the 31-year-old has decided to shift base to Tamil Nadu.

The report further suggests that the board failed to congratulate him for the World Championships medal. In addition, he is yet to receive the INR 2 lakh promised by the KBSA, after India won the Thomas Cup last year. After his exploits at the Asian Games too, where he won a silver and a bronze, the KBSA remained silent.

“I have always taken great pride in representing Kerala. I can no longer put up with the poor treatment meted out to me by the sports fraternity in the state,” Prannoy told OnManorama. He has already gotten the NOC and will be able to play for Tamil Nadu now. Though he won’t be able to participate in the National Games in Goa, he will be taking part in the Senior Badminton Nationals.
