Murray, who made a tremendous return from a hip surgery three years ago, moved around the court with a slight limp. He couldn’t come close to the intensity which the 26-year old Russian displayed on the court as he could just win six games in the match. This is Murray’s eight loss out of the 10 games that he has played this year.
“I think it was a great match. It’s never easy, first-round matches, even if you practise on the same courts for one or two months, it’s never going to be the same as a competitive tournament match,” Medvedev said in his post-match interview.

“So I’m happy that I managed to have zero break points against me. I feel like I have some room for improvement, but it was a great match against an amazing player and I’m happy that I managed to go through.”
The win puts Medvedev three wins away from returning to the top of the men’s rankings, after he lost his spot at the top following a stunning third-round loss to France’s Gael Monfils in Indian Wells.
