MI vs RCB Highlights: MI win by 6 wickets – Suryakumar Yadav (83 off 35) played one of the best knocks of IPL and was ably supported by Nehal Wadhera (52 off 34) as Mumbai Indians demolished Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets. With that win, MI jumped to 3rd spot with 12 points from 11 games. RCB slipped to 7th. Chasing 200, Wanindu Hasaranga rocked MI’s top order. But SKY and Wadhera added 140-run stand to make short work of the effort. In the end, MI chased down the target with 21 balls to spare. Follow IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

An excellent bowling display in the back 7 helped Mumbai Indians restrict Royal Challengers Bangalore to 199/6. Jason Behrendorff rattled RCB early on with two wickets in the powerplay. But that did not seem to bother RCB. Skipper Faf du Plessis (65 off 41) and Glenn Maxwell (68 off 33) added 120 runs for the 4th wicket to take the attack to Mumbai. In the end, Dinesh Karthik smashed 18-ball 30 as RCB managed 199/6.

RCB Innings Summary:

Chasing another 200-run target, Mumbai Indians needed a solid start. With Cameron Green suffering a finger injury, Rohit Sharma returned to the opening spot. But it was Ishan Kishan who turned on the beast mode.

He unleashed an assault on Josh Hazlewood and Mohammed Siraj. Ishan rushed to 42 off 21 balls in just 4.4 overs. But just when it seemed Ishan would be untouchable, Wanindu Hasaranga struck.

The Lankan spinner first dismissed Ishan for 42 and then trapped Rohit Sharma leg-before in the same over to put a pause on MI’s run-chase.

However, Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera had other ideas. The two unleashed their super shots at the Wankhede, not sparing any bowler.

  • Mohammed Siraj: 0/31 at 10:30
  • Josh Hazlewood: 0/32 at 10.70
  • Wanindu Hasaranga: 2/53 at 13.20
  • Vijaykumar Vyshak: 2/37 at 12.30
  • Harshal Patel: 0/41 at 11.70

Suryakumar-Wadhera pair took complete control of the chase. While SKY was off to a slow start, he upped the ante. He rushed to a 26-ball 50 but then unleashed his 360 degree shots. In the next 9 balls, he scored 33 runs. It included assault on Vyshak, Hasaranga, his India teammate Mohd Siraj and Australian Hazlewood. With 7 fours and 6 sixes, he took the game out of RCB’s hands.

SKY missed out on his century going on an ultra-offensive against Vyshak. MI lost another wicket when Tim David was dismissed for a golden duck. But it did not matter.

On the other end, Wadhera too had his own game plan. He smashed a 34-ball 52 to take Mumbai to the target in just 16.3 overs.

RCB Innings Summary:

Opting to bat on a good batting wicket, RCB expected a fast start. But it was the opposite. Nehal Wadhera gave Faf du Plessis a lifeline in the first over when he was on zero. But Jason Behrendorff came back on the very next ball to dismiss Kohli for 1 (4).

Anuj Rawat came in and looked lively early on the innings. But Behrendorff struck once again as he dismissed Rawat for a score of 6(4). When the future looked bleak for RCB, Maxwell and Faf launched a storm.

Maxwell went on to target Piyush Chawla to stabilise RCB’s sinking ship. Maxwell and Faf dealt in boundaries for the next six overs. Maxwell brought his half-century just four balls before the 10th over.

RCB were destined to cross the 200-run mark but Behrendorff broke the 120-run partnership. He picked up his third wicket of the match, dismissing Maxwell.

This marked the downfall of RCB’s innings. They lost two wickets in the next overs. One of them was the set batter Faf du Plessis, who ended his knock with a score of 65 (41).

Karthik unleashed carnage in the 18th over after Cameroon Green dropped a simple catch of Karthik in the 17th over. He struck 15 runs in Kartikeya’s over. On the very next ball, Karthik ended up playing a shot which brought an end to his meaningful came of 30(18). MI managed to restrict RCB before they crossed the 200-run mark as Akash Madhwal conceded 6 runs in the final over to end RCB’s innings on 199/6.
