World Cup 2023: The Mumbai Cricket Association has decided to immortalise MS Dhoni decisive six in the ICC 2011 World Cup final amid the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL 2023). It will serve as a monument to the World Cup-winning strike by the former India captain, who secured victory with a huge six at the Wankhede Stadium. MCA will also felicitate MSD during Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings (MI vs CSK) IPL game on April 8.

“We will install a memorial at the very place where the six had landed in the stands,” Amol Kale, the president of the MCA, confirmed to Cricbuzz following the Apex Council meeting held in Mumbai on Monday. Intriguingly, the conference was held the day after the 2011 final against Sri Lanka, which occurred on April 2, 2011, and which marked its 12-year anniversary.
“It would be a fitting tribute to MS Dhoni’s match-winning innings and we hope it will inspire many youngsters to follow the footsteps of Captain Cool in cricket,” MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik was quoted as saying.
Nuwan Kulasekara of Sri Lanka was smashed by Dhoni for a six in the Vithal Divecha Pavilion.
“It is difficult to identify exactly on which seat the ball had landed. We have identified three-four seats and we will install the memorial at that very spot,” Kale further added.
MCA to honor MS Dhoni during MI vs CSK IPL 2023 match
The MCA will honour Dhoni, the World Cup-winning captain of Chennai Super Kings, while he is in Mumbai on April 8 for an IPL match against the Mumbai Indians.
Dhoni will personally inaugurate the memorial once it has been installed, which will take some time.
Tendulkar, speaking on Sunday about the victory on its 12th anniversary, stated, “The trophy doesn’t just belong to the team it belongs to the nation; 2nd April, 2011, was the best cricketing moment of my life. It has been 12 years of that golden moment. To me that was the reason my journey started.”
