Max Verstappen continues to dominate F1 2023, achieves rare milestones

The Belgian GP 2023 saw Red Bull and Max Verstappen extend and break quite a few records. However, a few others racked up some records for themselves as well.

Belgian GP: As Red Bull and Max Verstappen continue to run away with both World Championships, they continue setting and extending various records. Here are a few stats, records, and numbers from the Belgian Grand Prix 2023:

  • Max Verstappen won the race by 22.305s this year. His winning margin was 17.841s last year.
  • Verstappen has now won 8 Grand Prix in a row and is just one win away from Sebastian Vettel’s all-time record from 2013.

  • Having already broken the record for the most wins by a team in a row across seasons, Red Bull now get the record during a single season as well. They have won their 12th race in a row this season.
  • With their 12th win in 12 races this season, they have also broken the record for the best start to a season by a team in Formula 1, surpassing 11 by McLaren in 1988.
  • Red Bull achieved their fifth 1-2 finish in 2023, tying their best season tally (in 2022).
  • Perez scored the 33rd podium of his career.
  • Charles Leclerc has now lost the race from his last 9 pole positions.

  • Lewis Hamilton is the only driver other than Max Verstappen to have scored at every Grand Prix in the first half of 2023.
  • Alonso finished 5th at Spa for the second year running and now holds a slim 1–point advantage over Lewis Hamilton in the championship.
  • Esteban Ocon finished eighth today. This means he has now scored at Spa in his last 6 appearances.
  • Lando Norris (P7) and Lance Stroll (P9) both had tied their best-ever finishes at this circuit, coincidentally coming in the same year (2020).
  • Yuki Tsunoda found himself in the points once again with a P10 finish. This means he is still the lone point scorer for Alpha Tauri this season.
  • Despite finishing P11 and not scoring today, Pierre Gasly takes home more points from the weekend (6) than his teammate Esteban Ocon (4).
  • Carlos Sainz has failed to finish at Spa a heart-breaking 4 times. This doesn’t include his 2020 appearance where he failed to start the race.
