For the duration of the season, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal held the top spot in the league standings. However, City’s 11-game unbeaten streak and the Gunners’ patchy play combined to give City the title with three games remaining. The last time City lost in the league was back in February when they played Tottenham Hotspur.
At one point in January, City was eight points behind Arsenal, but the defending champions haven’t lost since a 1-0 setback at Tottenham on February 5, when Mikel Arteta’s team stumbled. In their final home game of the year against Chelsea, Pep Guardiola’s squad will win the trophy for the third consecutive year when they once again raise it.
A Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League treble is now within reach for City, a record only accomplished once in English football by Manchester United in the 1998–99 season. As they attempt to win the European Cup for the first time, City will play Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3 and Inter Milan in the Champions League final on June 10.

Guardiola said on Friday that the Premier League is the “most important” to win because it takes a whole season of hard work. The Catalan’s fifth English title as a manager puts him joint third with Sir Matt Busby and Tom Watson for league triumphs; only Sir Alex Ferguson, Bob Paisley and George Ramsey have won more.
City has now won their fifth Premier League championship overall and ninth overall under Pep Guardiola. As a result, Manchester City now has 85 points and three games left, while Arsenal is in second place with 81 points and one game left. Forest is six points above the bottom three in 16th place. Including victories of 3-1 and 4-1 over Arsenal, City collected 40 points out of the last 42 available in the Premier League by scoring 39 goals and allowing only 10.
