Twitter exploded as fans and even the official Twitter handle of Manchester United took a dig on the phrase ‘The Portuguese Guy’. One fan wrote, “The Portuguese guy? When you disrespect the king he always wins.”

As FC Barcelona travelled to Old Trafford for their second leg, their coach Xavi was all praise for the Red Devils coach, Erik Ten Hag. Prior to the match during an interview, as Xavi was asked about Ten Hag, he said, “He is very good, I like him a lot. He has built a team and is getting the best out of all his players. That speaks well of him. Tactically he is very good and he handles the dressing room very well.”

He added, “He is getting all the talent out of his players. You see [Jadon] Sancho, Rashford, the Portuguese guy [Fernandes]. And look how Fred is playing.”

This statement about the vice-captain of the Red Devils did not go well with the fans. Bruno Fernandes has contributed well this season for his club with 9 assists and 7 goals in 36 matches. He has only gained more love from the fans. Hence, it’s only natural that after United won the match against the Blaugranas and kicked them out of the Europa League, fans burst out with trolls for Xavi.

After a 2-2 draw in the first leg at Spotify Camp Nou, both teams needed an absolute win. Both teams had been riddled with injuries and both coaches needed to bring their genius tactics to the field to win the game. United conceded an early penalty which was given away by Bruno Fernandes into only 18 minutes of the game.
