Inter Milan will travel to Istanbul to take on the English giants Manchester City on Saturday. They will be looking to get their hands on their 4th Champions League trophy. Mkhitaryan and Dimarco are recovering and they will hope to be back to the starting XI against Man City.

Man City vs Inter Milan: Inter Milan fly to Istanbul with the intention of stopping Manchester City on their track from winning the treble. Considering Man City’s destructive form, they will have a tough job on their hand. On the way, they will try to acquire a double of their own. They have fallen behind in pursuit of the Serie A title. Inter Milan finished third in the Serie A league table this season. They were the second team with the most wins in the league this season. Yet, they fell short in the title race as they lost 12 matches throughout the season. Their hopes for the Scudetto might have been thwarted, but they have still managed to acquire two trophies this season. They won the Supercoppa Italiana in January by beating AC Milan by a 0-3 scoreline. They faced AC Milan again in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

It was a repeat of the Supercoppa Italiana humiliation for AC Milan. Inter Milan defeated AC Milan by another 3-0 scoreline throughout the two legs of the semi-finals to reach the finals. 2 goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan confirmed their win in the first leg. Whereas, a single goal from Lautaro Martinez in the return leg was enough to knock AC Milan off the competition. The most amazing feat they have been able to achieve in the meantime is keeping five clean sheets in six knockout matches.

Their defense has been their strongest suit. However, their attack has not lagged behind. In their last 17 games throughout all competitions, they have only failed once in scoring any goals. A combination of these two abilities has won them 11 of their last 12 games in all competitions. After qualifying for the Champions League final, they also defeated Europa Conference League runners-up Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia in late May. Inter will try their best to win as the only Italian club left in Europe’s top competition after Fiorentina’s loss.

Hence, even though Man City have the odds in their favour going into the Champions League final, Inter Milan will still be a force to reckon with. Three players remain as doubts for the Nerazzurris. Mkhitaryan sustained a thigh injury during the semi-final second leg against AC Milan and he’s working to be fit before the final. Federico Dimarco was left out from the last matchday of Serie A when because of muscular fatigue. Whereas, Joaquin Correa sustained a calf injury in their Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina.

However, even if Correa recovers, he will probably be watching the match from the bench. Since coach Simone Inzaghi has found his working duo in Martinez and Dzeko, Romelo Lukaku will probably be benched as well. If Mkhitaryan recovers in time, Marcelo Brozovic will have to make way for him in the starting XI. Andre Onana will take his spot under the goalposts in the hopes of taking his clean sheet tally to 9 to level Edouard Mendy’s 2020-21 record. Otherwise, the coach will probably field the same starting lineup as their last Champions League games.

Inter Milan Probable XI: Onana; Darmian, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Mkhitaryan, Calhanoglu, Dimarco; Martinez, Dzeko
