The allegations pertain to issues like failing to provide proper financial information about sponsorship money and neglecting to disclose a manager’s genuine compensation, and they span a nine-season period. In a secret hearing, the charges will be decided upon by an impartial commission made up of a panel of three people.

City retaliated vehemently, claiming they had “irrefutable evidence” that they had done nothing illegal and that they were eager for the situation to “be put to rest once and for all.” If found guilty, the panel has the authority to revoke titles, take away points, levy fines, and maybe exclude City from the Premier League.

If Manchester City received the most severe sanction possible—expulsion from the league—the EFL would not be required to accept the club. The three Championship clubs that are promoted to the Premier League become shareholders in the top division, and clubs that are relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season must apply to join the EFL.
The EFL, which oversees the Championship, League One, and League Two, is only allowed to have 72 clubs as members, therefore it is not required to instantly accept a club should they be kicked out of the Premier League.

The allegations against the current league winners centre on financial data pertaining to revenue, specifics of manager and player compensation, UEFA regulations, profitability and sustainability, and cooperation with Premier League investigations. Alleged financial violations allegedly occurred between September 2009 and the 2017–18 season, according to a statement from the league, and they will be forwarded to an impartial commission. Due to their lack of cooperation with the inquiry since it started in 2018, City are also facing prosecution.
The team is also accused to have violated league rules that provide for the publication of “accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position” in “the utmost good faith.”
