IPL 2023: Matheesha Pathirana, a Sri Lankan pacer, has been nurtured this year by Chennai Super Kings and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) in the same manner as in previous years. The 20-year-old speedster was discovered by Dhoni early on and joined the CSK team as a result.
Dhoni met with the young Sri Lankan player’s family after making it to the Indian Premier League 2023 final.
Pathirana is a great death bowler. Additionally, picking is a little bit challenging given his motion. He also has the slower one.
“It becomes very challenging to consistently hit him when you spend those extra seconds watching the ball and he is bowling at a decent pace,” Dhoni had said.

“Now we are sure that malli is in safe hands when thala said ‘You have nothing to worry about Matheesha, he’s always with me,'” with pictures of Dhoni and their family, Pathirana’s sister Vishuka wrote on Instagram.
According to MS Dhoni, due to Matheesha Pathirana’s unique bowling action, he shouldn’t play red-ball cricket if he wants to extend his career.
However, Sri Lankan cricketing legend Lasith Malinga believes that Pathirana’s use in red-ball cricket is perfectly acceptable. To ESPNCricinfo, he stated:
“MS Dhoni is saying he should just play ICC tournaments. I wonder if he’s just saying that for fun (laughs). It’s hard to do that when you’re playing for the national team. I think anyone who tells him not to play red-ball cricket is doing that because they think he will get injured.”
The following game for Pathirana will be Sunday’s IPL 2023 championship game in Ahmedabad. The MS Dhoni-led side will compete against the victor of the Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Titans clash in Qualifier 2.
Chennai Super Kings, the four-time winners, defeated Gujarat Titans by 15 runs in Qualifier 1 to go to the Indian Premier League final.
