About MCA Stadium
Located in Gahunje on the outskirts of Pune, the MCA Stadium is considered one of India’s modern cricketing venues, equipped with specific and important facilities. Initially known as the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, it was inaugurated in 2012 by former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Sharad Pawar. Although construction began in 2010, delays meant the venue was only completed in 2012, which is why it missed the opportunity to host matches during the 2011 ICC World Cup.
The creation of the MCA Stadium is an interesting story. Previously, Pune’s Nehru Stadium served as the city’s international cricket venue. However, disagreements between the Maharashtra Cricket Association and the Pune Municipal Corporation prompted the MCA to construct a new ground.
The stadium hosted its first international game, a T20I between India and England, in December 2012. That same year, it made its IPL debut when Pune Warriors India faced Punjab Kings, formerly known as Kings XI Punjab.
