The Briton went down with illness and thus Djokovic will progress into the Quarterfinals.   • Novak Djokovic is still eyeing his first title in 2022 and he is participating in just his fourth tournament this year.
  • He was deported from Australia at the start of the year after being unvaccinated and was not allowed in several tournaments.
  • His first tournament in 2022 was Dubai Tennis championships, where he lost to Jiri Vesely in the Dubai quarterfinals.
  • He then faced a shock first round exit at Monte Carlo after losing to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
  • Djokovic then finished as runner-up at his home tournament Serbia Open, after losing to Andrey Rublev in the final.
  • At Madrid, he sailed past Gael Monils in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round.

  • Andy Murray started this year with a first round exit at Melbourne Summer Set.
  • He then finished as runner-up in the Sydney International after losing the final to Aslan Karatsev in straight sets.
  • He returned to the Australian Open, exactly three years later after a tearful exit in 2019 due to a career threatening hip injury and bowed out in the second round.
  • He then played in the ATP Rotterdam, Qatar Open, Dubai Tennis Championship, Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open. In all the tournaments, he failed to go past the second round.
  • He decided to skip the clay court season this year but revoked his decision and decided to feature in the Madrid Open. This will be his first match on clay since the 2020 French Open.
