MA Chidambaram Stadium

The MA Chidambaram Stadium, popularly known as Chepauk Stadium, is a cricket venue located in Chepauk, Chennai. Operated by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, it is named after former BCCI president M. A. Chidambaram. Established in 1916, it is India’s second-oldest international cricket stadium still in use, after Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.

Chepauk serves as the home ground for the Tamil Nadu men’s and women’s cricket teams and hosts Indian Premier League (IPL) matches for the Chennai Super Kings, including IPL finals in 2011, 2012, and 2024. It has also been a venue for the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

The stadium witnessed India’s first Test win in 1952 against England and hosted a historic tied Test against Australia in 1986. It has hosted matches across several World Cups, including the 1987, 1996, 2011, 2023, and 1997 Women’s Cricket World Cup. As of October 2024, the stadium has held over 80 international matches.
