Luis Suarez will reunite with close friend and former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami next season. Between 2014 and 2016, the Uruguayan played with the superstar at Barcelona, where they won the treble in 2015.
They became good friends and frequently took their families on vacation together. And now, in the twilight of their careers, they may reconnect at David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
According to El Pais, Suarez has been in contact with the MLS team about a January move. The 36-year-old striker has been given a one-year contract to join Messi and former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
Suarez will go to Miami next month to seal the transfer once his contract with Gremio expires. Since joining the Brazilian club in December, he has scored 22 goals in 46 appearances. He may, however, opt to retire owing to a knee issue that has troubled him for much of his Gremio career.
Due to the ongoing issue, Suarez cut his Gremio contract by a year. As a result, he need daily injections and particular therapies to deal with.
This season, Inter Miami finished second to last in the Eastern Conference. However, Messi’s arrival had a significant influence on The Herons’ League Cup victory. Gerardo Martino took over as manager in the middle of the season and won nine of his 22 games.
