STAT: Best bowling returns for LSG
- 5/14 – Mark Wood vs DC, Lucknow, today
- 4/16 – Mohsin Khan vs DC, Wankhede, 2022
- 4/24 – Avesh Khan vs SRH, DY Patil, 2022
Mark Wood made his much-awaited debut for Lucknow Super Giants and the England star set the stage on fire with a fifer on debut. Delhi Capitals got off to a roaring which prompted KL Rahul to turn to Mark Wood. The 33-year-old responded with a peach of a start, getting Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh off successive deliveries. He bowled with a ferocious pace, clocking 147.3 and 147.8 on his wicket-taking deliveries.
In the next over, he got the better of Sarfaraz Khan. The wicketkeeper was completely bamboozled with the pace and surrendered his wicket. Wood then returned to bowl the final over of the innings, getting Axar Patel and Chetan Sakariya to complete his five-wicket haul. It his first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket and also the first by an LSG player.
Wood also became the second England bowler to bag an IPL five-wicket haul. Before him, only Dimitri Mascarenhas had returned with 5/25 for PBKS against PWI in Mohali in 2012. It was also his first wicket in IPL cricket, having gone wicketless for CSK in his debut five years ago.
