Lionel Messi transfer: Lionel Messi’s homecoming to Barcelona rumours gain more weight every day as PSG still have not found a way to prepare a suitable contract for the Argentine. Barcelona fans have become excited about the possibility of his comeback as coach Xavi, President Joan Laporta, and vice-president Rafa Yuste, all have said that they are trying to make it a reality. Robert Lewandowski was recently present at the launch of the Solidarity Stories of Sport’s 18th book. There he was asked about his thoughts on the matter, so he said, “Messi belongs to Barca and if he comes back it will be something incredible.” He added a message for the Argentine saying, “We know your place is here in Barcelona. I don’t know what will happen, but I hope that next season we can play together.”

Robert Lewandowski is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in the world. He came to Barcelona in the middle of financial issues that the club is still suffering. Compared to his last few seasons at Bayern Munich, he has not had the best time at Barcelona in his first year, but he knows that Barcelona are trying to get back on their feet. Even so, he is leading in La Liga’s top scorers’ list.

Barcelona have been comparatively better this season under Xavi. They have been knocked out of the Champions League from the group stages and then were knocked out of the Europa League by Manchester United. Recently, they were knocked out of the Copa Del Rey semi-final stage by their arch-rival Real Madrid.

However, they have already won the Super Cup title at the start of this year. They are also occupying the first position in La Liga by 13 points from the second-placed Real Madrid. Considering the point gap, it will take a devastating fall for them to lose the title now with 10 matches to go. If they do manage to win the title, it will come after 4 years of waiting.

About their situation, Lewandowski said, “It’s still early days for La Liga. We are taking steps and it is not easy. We have a lot of new players and a lot of injuries, like in the group stage of the Champions League or the last game against Madrid, so it’s been difficult.” He added, “At Bayern, it has always been normal, but Barca is in the process of becoming great again. We have to be patient and I’m sure next season will be better.”

Lionel Messi had to leave Barcelona under poor financial circumstances, but the relationship didn’t get bitter between the club and the player. Messi then joined PSG on a 2-year contract which is due to expire at the end of this season. PSG have now tried twice to sign a new deal with the Argentine but in vain.

Lewandowski isn’t the only one that wants Messi to come back to Barcelona. While PSG fans have been booing the Argentine in some of PSG’s last matches, Barcelona fans have been chanting Messi’s name in the 10th minute of each of Barcelona’s last 2 matches. Even coach Xavi has also said, “The fans appreciate where we are. But we are missing the title. Leo generates hope.
