Lionel Messi: Following his exit from PSG, Lionel Messi wanted to come back to Barcelona to spend the rest of his days. However, considering La Blaugrana’s financial situation, the transfer was going to be more complex than when Messi had to leave Barcelona in 2021. Hence, Messi decided against the move and accepted the offer from MLS club Inter Miami. However, club President Joan Laporta had already talked to them regarding a tributary match for Messi and he seems to have come up with a date.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta has recently given an interview to the Catalan television channel, TV3. During this interview, he was asked about Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona. Laporta spoke to Messi’s father, Jorge Messi regarding a tributary match that could be held at Barcelona. Laporta revealed a possible date for that match in future and said, “Barca will always be his home. I met with them to make a tribute. The opening day of the Spotify Camp Nou would be an excellent date.”
Even though Messi did not come back to Barcelona, it still remains the club where he has spent most of his career. He joined when he was only 13 and left when he was 33 years old. He has helped them win two trebles and scored a magnificent number of 672 goals. Hence, the Argentine deserves a tributary match at the club. However, that might not be the last time he comes back to Barcelona. Messi previously said, “When I finish my career, I will return to live in Barcelona, it’s my home.”
Leo Messi left Barcelona in 2021 in such a manner that left the player as well as the fans astounded. There were no clues beforehand that he could be leaving the club. Messi had to pay for this sudden move as well when he left for PSG. A few days ago, during Messi’s interview where he announced his move to Inter Miami, Messi said how he along with his family had to live in hotels for some significant time before settling there.

Messi also said how unhappy he and his family were during the 2 years at PSG. In a similar manner, this time as well, his transfer possibilities with Las Blaugranas were complicated once again. Messi expressed how Barcelona conveyed that they had La Liga’s permission, but still had several more issues to resolve. He did not want to wait for the last moment to see whether everything worked out for him to join Barcelona. If it didn’t, he would have to spend his days in turmoil again.
Hence, he chose to join Inter Miami where he is expecting to have more family time and peace of mind. Barcelona released a statement of their own following Messi’s interview. Joan Laporta echoed the words from that statement another time during this interview. He was asked about Messi’s decision to not come back to Barcelona. Laporta said, “Messi wanted to return to Barca. He had a very tough period in Paris. His father told me he didn’t want to have this pressure. We, the Cules, respect him. May he do very well in Miami.”
