PSG have taken to their Twitter account today to post a picture of Lionel Messi in training. The picture had the caption “Leo Messi back in training this Monday morning.” Even though Messi apologised after the suspension, people wondered about the relationship between PSG and him. It almost became certain to people that Messi was leaving PSG at the end of the season. People also wondered if that caused their relationship to become sour. However, everything still seems okay, now that PSG have lifted Messi’s suspension after only one week.

It is very unusual and extremely rare to see Lionel Messi involved in any row with the club he represents. That’s why, the world was shocked to learn of the news of his suspension by PSG. After PSG lost 3-1 to Lorient on April 30, Messi assumed the players would have a day off same as usual. Hence, he decided to make a trip to Saudi. He had postponed this trip twice in the previous month respecting PSG’s schedule. However, he is the ambassador for Saudi tourism, which bound him with that particular trip. Hence, he decided to go for it last Monday.

He had informed the club of his travel plan and left on Monday morning. However, while he was on the air, he was informed of a change in PSG’s schedule. PSG decided to hold an unplanned training session on the day which Messi inevitably had to miss. PSG were furious and they suspended the player for the next weeks. The suspension meant that he would not be involved in any training sessions or matches for two weeks. He was going to miss PSG’s Ligue 1 fixtures against Troyes on May 7th and against Ajaccio on May 13th.

He did not train with the first team in the last week. He was also absent from the first-team squad in PSG’s last match against Troyes. Following the news of his suspension, Lionel Messi took to his social media account and posted a video apologising to the club, his teammates, and fans.

In the video, he said, “I wanted to make this video due to everything that is happening. First of all, I want to say sorry to my team-mates and to the club. I honestly thought that we were going to be free after the game, as had been the case in previous weeks. I had organised this trip to Saudi Arabia, which had been cancelled previously and this time I couldn’t. I apologise again and I’m here for whatever the club decide. All the best.”

After the public apology, it was up to the club to decide on the player’s further punishment. However, the internet was definitely taken by the response from one of this generation’s greatest footballers. Messi’s will to apologise to the club he represents showed a certain kind of mentality that all players should have. It can be guessed that the player must have contacted the club authority personally as well. It seems that PSG were moved by Messi’s apology like the general population as well. It looks like they have lifted the suspension after a week.
