‘Liable To Be Prosecuted’, Delhi Police publish chargesheet against Brij Bhushan

Based on the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police on WFI President, the court has summoned Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been charged by the Delhi Police and has been summoned by the court. As for the chargesheet filed, it has been clearly stated that Bhushan Sharan Singh has been accused of sexual harassment, molestation, and stalking and is liable to be punished and prosecuted for the same.

Based on the investigation by the Delhi Police, the chargesheet has been prepared by the Delhi Police after taking accounts of 6 different wrestlers. “The accused may please be summoned to face trial and witnesses named in the list of witnesses appended with the chargesheet may be called for their examination along with documents mentioned with their names,” the chargesheet states.

The WFI President has been charged under sections including 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman); 354 A (sexual harassment); and 354 D (stalking). The charge sheet also showcases that the investigators spoke with 108 witnesses among which 15 corroborated with the facts.

The court has subsequently asked Singh and the witnesses to appear in court for the ongoing investigation. Singh has gone on to deny the accusations from Day 1 and has claimed that the protesting wrestlers are keen to tarnish his public image. Singh further went on to claim that he has never met the accused persons.

In two of the six cases, Singh has been booked under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (making sexually coloured remarks) and 354D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code, while in the remaining four cases are under Sections 354 and 354A.

These offences carry a prison term of up to five years. Additionally, a chargesheet also names Vinod Tomar under sections 506 and 109 of the IPC. These charges relate to criminal force for outraging a woman’s modesty, sexual harassment, stalking, abetment of an offence, and criminal intimidation.

The Kesarganj MP, who has a strong footing among the Jat community of Uttar Pradesh, continues to deny all the allegations. The chargesheet was filed based on the statements of at least 108 witnesses, including wrestlers, coaches and referees. It included their corroborative statements about the allegations of the six wrestlers.

The Delhi Police’s Special Investigation Team has visited Rohtak, Sonipat, Lucknow, Patiala, Kurukshetra, Hissar, Bhiwani, Chandigarh and Bellary in Karnataka for the investigation.
