Lewis Hamilton Warned On ‘Playing With Fire’, While Daniel Ricciardo Closes Gap to F1 Seat at Red Bull

Red Bull is battling the back-to-back terrible outings of Sergio Perez with no podiums in the last three races and Lewis Hamilton got a stiff suggestion from the former F1 champion for "playing with fire".

Over the past few weeks, Formula 1 is reeling in new speculations and controversies day in and day out. Red Bull is dominating the scene like never before with Max Verstappen winning the race almost a norm in F1. Moreover, ambitious Mercedes are not ready to give up on that top spot as they make significant strides towards improvement over the last three weekends. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are giving some major deja vu to long-time ardent F1 fans lately.

The two teams primarily in focus are Red Bull and Mercedes and both with problems of their own. Damon Hill Suggests Lewis Hamilton go easy with Fernando Alonso

The Canadian GP saw the two legends battling it out with the highest degree of wheel-to-wheel racing. Fans were reminded of the duo’s McLaren days when Hamilton in his rookie season outpaced Alonso after many such on-track shenanigans. However, now the two are in a different space and hold mutual respect for each other. During the Canadian GP, Hamilton over Alonso right during the race started around the first turn, a position which Alonso took and held onto later in the race.

When asked about the same, Hamilton gave a rather cheeky response saying Alonso’s age might be affecting his reflexes, which made it easier for him to overtake him. Former world champion Damon Hill gave two cents about this fun banter between the two champions.

“I thought he was playing with fire a little bit with the friendly dig he gave Fernando Alonso about jumping him at the start, saying that it’s because he’s a bit old now. Because the second oldest guy in Formula One is Lewis Hamilton!” said Hill.

Daniel Ricciardo might replace Sergio Perez going forward

Daniel Ricciardo returned to the team he called his home for the longest time earlier this season as a reserved driver. Ricciardo didn’t just bring them a driver with high brand value and experience but also formidable driving skills, still one of the best. With Perez constantly performing poorly, fans are hoping to see the “Honey Badger” behind the wheel. Ricciardo is scheduled to do a test around the circuit of Silverstone later this season for the team.

However, speculations have been around with a monumental gap between Perez and Verstappen (currently 69 points) that Danny Ric might get a chance sooner than expected. Recently, Red Bull Honcho Helmut Marko discussed the possibility of handing over the wheel to Ricciardo. “After Silverstone, we will have Ricciardo in the car for three days at the tire test organized by Pirelli. And then you can evaluate: where is Ricciardo really?” said the Red Bull advisor.
