Lewis Hamilton hits back at Jackie Stewart, calls his comments ‘short-minded’

After some serious comments by Jackie Stewart regarding Lewis Hamilton’s issues, the 7-time World Champion has hit back.

Lewis Hamilton has enjoyed a lot of success in Formula 1. A large portion of that success has been with Mercedes over the last decade. As he signed a new 2-year deal with them, Jackie Stewart had some comments to make about him. Lewis Hamilton hit back at those comments. He chose to focus on Mercedes who are looking to challenge Red Bull and Max Verstappen again.

Lewis Hamilton’s “serious problems”

Jackie Stewart thinks Lewis Hamilton has some serious problems to address in Formula 1 now that he is staying. In an interview with BILD, he appreciated Lewis first up and called him one of the best ever to drive in Formula 1. However, Jackie Stewart believes Lewis won everything he did while driving for a Mercedes team without competition.

He believes the only real competitor he had each year was his teammate, whom he beat every year except 2016. On the topic of 2016, Jackie Stewart mentioned how Lewis Hamilton got beaten by Nico Rosberg. According to him, Nico was just a good driver, but he had the hunger and will to become World Champion. He believes Lewis doesn’t have it anymore. His lack of ambition coupled with a non-competitive Mercedes poses some “serious problems”, according to Stewart.

Lewis Hamilton responds, “I never want to do this”

In an interview with BBC, Lewis Hamilton called people like Jackie Stewart extremely short-minded. He rightfully said how people have no idea about the work going on in the background. Once he retires from Formula 1, he wants to encourage young drivers rather than tear them down. He hopes to never do something like this.

Coming back to on-track subjects, Lewis Hamilton said Mercedes has really pulled together. They are preparing to stop Max Verstappen. In fact, he feels even more prepared to take on the Dutchman after these difficult times.
