During an interview with Dario Ole, Messi said, “When I finish my career, I will return to live in Barcelona, it’s my home”. He also spoke about taking all the items from the World Cup final to Barcelona once he returns to Spain. He added, “I kept everything from the final: The boots, the t-shirts… Everything is there on the AFA property and now in March, I’m going to take everything to Barcelona, where I have my things and my memories..”.

With Messi ruling out any possibility of playing in Barcelona colours yet again, his record for the Catalan team is set to remain at 672 goals through 778 appearances. He also won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League titles during his time at the club.

Leo Messi plays down retirement rumours

The 35-year-old’s trophy cabinet was complete following his World Cup win in Qatar. Argentina went on to beat France in the final to lift the trophy. While the entire world is talking about his retirement plans, the footballer himself has revealed that he has plans to keep going on until the next edition of the tournament.

Speaking to the same media outlet, the Argentine said, “Because of age it’ll be difficult to make 2026. I love playing football and while I feel like I’m in good shape and enjoying this, I’m going to keep at it. It seems like a long time until the next World Cup, but it depends on how my career is going.”

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni also said that he hoped to see superstar donning Argentina jersey for the next world cup as well. He said “I think Messi can make it to the next World Cup,” Scaloni told Spanish radio Calvia FM last month. “It will depend a lot on what he wants and what happens over time, that he feels good. The doors will always be open. He is happy on the pitch, and for us (it) would be good.”.
