World No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is part of Team Europe was in action against Team World’s Diego Schwartzman during the second singles contest of the day. Tsitsipas won the first set and when he was serving in the first game of the second set, an unknown protestor invaded the court and tried to set his arm ablaze before he was dragged off the court.
It can be seen that the protestor was wearing a T-Shirt with the slogan “End UK Private Jets” and British media reported that the protestor was a member of the End UK Private Jets group, which claims “carbon emissions in 2022 are genocide.”
As soon as the incident, play was halted for a few minutes to check whether any damage has been incurred to the playing surface. Play then resumed immediately after officials confirmed that no damage was done to the playing surface.
