Lando Norris Goes Rogue Against Oil Protesters Labeling Them ‘Selfish & Stupid’

As it was accurately predicted last year at this venue, five protesters climbed on the Wellington straight of the Silverstone track.

The 2023 F1 British Grand Prix is scheduled on the 9th of July at the iconic Silverstone track. After the Austrian GP last week, it will be the second in this leg of European races, and arguably the most exciting as well. With 9 back-to-back wins, Red Bull will look to make it an even ten at the Silverstone. Meanwhile, Mercedes and other teams will be determined to break this dominant streak. However, racing is not the only talk of the weekend at Silverstone.

As it was accurately predicted last year at this venue, five protesters climbed on the Wellington straight of the Silverstone track. The oil protesters had a thorough plan to disrupt the race and gain as much attention for this cause as they can fathom. Wellington straight is amongst the fastest part of the track. Moreover, several cars were around making it a serious safety offense. If not for the quick response from the marshals, something hazardous may have ensued.

Moreover, in a recent event, protestors from “just stop oil” halted the second Ashes series test match at the iconic Lords’ stadium. They entered the outfield and threw orange powder near the pitch causing a disruption to the game. English batsman Jonny Bairstow picked up a pitch invader himself during the chaotic scene. He then dropped him on the other side of the boundary line. More recently, F1 driver Lando Norris has made an appeal to the English crowd in light of such events.

“It is a very selfish thing to do”: Lando Norris blasts at the protestors

British driver Lando Norris recently opened up about these recurring events. Apart from the iconic Ashes test, the Premiership rugby final was also disrupted by the oil protestors recently. Giving his two cents on the same, the young Brit found it stupid and selfish on the part of the protestors.

“Of course, it is a concern, because it is a stupid thing to do to put your life in danger with cars driving around,” Norris said. “It is also a very selfish thing to do because of the consequences it could have on the person that drives the car,” said Norris as reported by The Guardian.

“Everyone has a right to protest and there are good ways of doing it and worse ways. I just hope people are smart enough not to do it. There are much safer ways to get just as much attention,” added the McLaren man.

The upcoming Silverstone GP is a home race for him along with fellow Britons Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Though we expect an exceptional race on the track, the off-track shenanigans still remain a concern to be addressed. Tell us what you think about the same in the comments below.
