The FIR was initially filed by M Goviappa Nagaraja. He alleged that Lakshya Sen and his brother Chirag Sen, had fudged their age since 2010 to get into playing age-group tournaments. The complaint also named Sen’s father Dhirendra, mother Nirmala and coach Kumar who has coached the duo for more than 10 years.
Following the FIR, they were charged with cheating (Section 420), forgery (468), using a forged document as genuine (471) and acts done by several persons of common intention (34) under the Indian Penal Code.

They claimed that the complaint against them is baseless and is intended to harass them. They also alleged that the complaint failed to disclose that the Central Vigilance Commission had in 2018 itself has accepted the birth records submitted by Dhirendra Sen, Lakshya Sen’s father.
The Sen brothers, who hail from Uttarakhand, train at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru. Lakshya is currently the top ranked Indian in Men’s Singles. He is ranked World No.7. He had a terrific year in 2022 in which, he won the Commonealth Games Gold medal. He also played a key role in India’s Thomas Cup winning campaign. He was also a runner-up in the All England Championships.
The 21-year old was recently honoured with the Arjuna Award. H eis currently in Dubai for pre-season training. He will be seen in action in the upcoming Indian Open that will kickstart the 2023 BWF Tour.
