“8 points behind Barcelona. Would you have signed for this in September?”
Carlo Ancelotti: “No, I would have liked an 8-point lead, to win 5-0 at Anfield or the Spanish Super Cup. But we’re doing well, because we’ve had casualties.” pic.twitter.com/nfLRQvr2OC

Looking at the rest of the matches left to play for both clubs, both still have some tough matches on their hands. Real Madrid will be facing Atletico de Madrid on Sunday, Barcelona near the end of March, and Real Sociedad in the beginning of May. Even though, at this point, they cannot afford to drop any more points, they especially will be doomed if they lose points in these matches.
Before such an important Madrid derby, their win against Liverpool definitely gave some much needed morale boost. It also shows as boss Carlo Ancelotti said, “We’re going to try to win every competition.”
He has expressed the difficulty of their job saying, “We’re second in the league, so that won’t be easy,” He added, “No, I am not happy with the season [so far].”
He expressed his optimism amidst some regrets saying, “I would rather be eight points clear and have won the Supercopa de Espana, and a 5-0 result at Anfield would have been better than 5-2, but still, we’re doing very well… Hopefully we can recover those lost points [in the league].”
