Kusal Mendis who tormented Pakistan with a thunderous 77-ball 122-run knock has been taken to the hospital. The wicketkeeper batter experienced cramps and was taken to the hospital for a proper checkup. In his absence, Dushan Hemantha has taken the field to don the keeper duties for the PAK vs SL World Cup clash.

Sri Lanka Cricket Team’s statement read “Kusal Mendis was taken to the hospital after the player suffered cramps upon returning from the field after his brilliant knock of 122 runs from 77 balls in the ongoing game vs. Pakistan.

Dushan Hemantha is on the field for Mendis, while Sadeera Samarawickrama has taken over the wicketkeeping duties in the absence of Mendis.”

Coming to the game, Kusal Mendis was one of the star batters for his side along with the likes of Sadeera Samarawickrama. The duo slammed respective tons to guide the Emerland Isles to mount a big score on the board against Pakistan.

Playing with a strike rate of 158, Kusal Mendis slammed 14 fours and 6 sixes to help Sri Lanka amass 344 runs after the end of 50 stipulated overs.

Kusal Mendis was the star of the show for Sri Lanka for the second successive game, with the big-hitting No.3 slamming a majestic century to get his side off to a phenomenal start to the innings.

And Sadeera Samarawickrama helped build a formidable total of 344/9 as he stroked an excellent hundred of his own, departing for 108 from 89 balls.

Pakistan’s men have only once chased a score in excess of 340 in their ODI history, while their previous highest World Cup chase is 263, so they will require a record effort to make it two wins from two at the tournament.
