The rules of the match are as follows:

  • Two teams of two boxers will compete in a tag team match.
  • One member from each team (referred to as the “fighter”) will engage in the fight during the tag team match, as per standard boxing regulations.
  • The team member from each team who is not participating in the tag team battle, known as the “substitute,” must stand on the ring’s apron behind their team’s corner.
  • At the outset of each round of the tag team battle, each team is able to choose which member of the team will be the fighter.

Tags

  • Anytime time there is a pause in the action and a fighter raises and maintains either glove straight in the air, a tag is initiated. When trading blows, a fighter cannot tag in the middle of the action.
  • When a fighter raises their glove in the air, they are allowed to go to their corner and touch gloves with the replacement, at which time the fighter switches roles and the replacement switches roles (a “tag”).
  • Until the referee signals that the tag team match may continue, the opponent during a tag must remain in a neutral corner. It is forbidden for an adversary to tag their replacement during the opposing team’s tag.
  • In cases where the stand-in does not want to tag, the combat must go on.
  • If an opponent tries to continue the tag team fight while being tagged, their team will be eliminated.
  • There is no restriction on how many tags may occur during a tag team match.
  • After a knockdown, the referee must count before allowing a tag.

Results

  • The boxing regulations for a standard boxing contest apply to the tag team fight, and one team is declared the winner.
  • Scorecards are determined using the fighters’ performance in the ring as though they were two separate individuals.
  • If one team member is eliminated through knockout or the referee declares a technical knockout, the other team will be declared the winner.
