Rahul starts net session at NCA –
On Wednesday few pictures of Rahul went viral as he was spotted at the NCA where he was seen taking light net sessions. The pictures have portrayed Rahul was wearing shorts in the nets and was seen defending the ball.
Interestingly Rahul wore pad only on his left foot and didn’t stress his body as he took full precaution while taking the net sessions. The limited-overs vice captain took a short stride before he was seen making use of the wrist.
In another picture, Rahul was seen having a conversation with the coaching staff, perhaps working on his routine to make the recovery. Bangalore is also his home town and he will be familiar to the conditions that might help him in aiding for his recovery.
The 30-year-old has played 42 Tests, 42 ODIs and 56 T20Is for India in the last eight years.

Underwent surgery in Germany-
Rahul has over the years had recurrent lower abdominal-related fitness issues, including groin strains and hamstring injuries. Therefore, Rahul decided to opt out of the home series against South Africa and decided to jet off to Germany to undergo hernia surgery.
After successfully undergoing the sports hernia surgery, it is expected that he will miss the next couple of months of action. In Rahul’s absence from the Indian team, Rishabh Pant led the Indian team against South Africa in the T20 series, which ended in a stalemate of 2-2. While his absence has opened doors to multiple players in the opener’s role.

Rahul is currently under the observation of Nitin Patel at the NCA, who is the head of the NCA Sports Science team. The former Team India physio has recently taken charge of the newly established sports science wing to fasten the recovery of players.
Blessing in disguise after Rahul’s injury
Rahul’s absence in the team has opened doors for the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan to get a stint as an opener. Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda also shared the responsibilities as openers in the T20I series against Ireland.
So Rahul’s absence has helped other players to make an impression and come into frame as potential plan B for the openers slot. On the flip side, players like Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya have led the Indian side in his absence.
