KKR vs CSK Highlights: CSK win by 49 runs – In a total demolition job, Chennai Super Kings have thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs to move to top of the Points Table with 10 points from 7 games. Ajinkya Rahane was the star with 29-ball 71 while Shivam Dube (50) and Devon Conway (56) helped CSK post a record total of 235/4 at the Eden Gardens. KKR made a mess of the chase but Jason Roy (61 off 26) and Rinku Singh (53 off 33) helped ease the pain in a 49-run loss as KKR could only manage 186/8. Follow Indian Premier League 2023 LIVE Updates with InsideSport.IN.

KKR Innings Highlights: The hosts suffered a blow even before beginning their mammoth 236-run chase. Jason Roy struggled with injury and KKR had to send Sunil Narine to open with Narayan Jagadeesan.

But it proved futile. Young pacer Akash Singh cleaned up Narine on the third ball for the West Indies star’s 15th duck in IPL. In the next over, it was time for Tushar Deshpande to step up and he dismissed Jagadeesan as KKR went down to 1/2.

Venkatesh Iyer (20 off 20) and Nitish Rana (27 off 20) tried to rebuild with a 45-run stand. But with two left-handers on the crease and the field restriction eased, MS Dhoni brought in Moeen Ali.

The English spinner delivered on the first ball, trapping Iyer LBW. Rana continued to add a stand with Jason Roy taking charge with his brute power. But Rana departed in the 9th over off Ravindra Jadeja.

KKR made the 2nd mistake in batting, sending Rinku Singh in place of Andre Russell with the asking rate touching 15 an over. But Jason Roy continued his free-hitting display, taking on all CSK bowlers alike en route 26-ball 61. He completed his fifty off just 19 balls. Roy added 65 runs off just 37 deliveries with Rinku.

With Theekshana cleaning Roy up, Andre Russell came to the crease. However, the Windies star disappointed once again. But with the asking rate at 17, he was not to be blamed. He tried to go after the CSK bowling attack and got a 6 but Matheesha Pathirana got rid of him for 9.

David Weise, flopped on his debut with KKR hoping Rinku Singh pull off another miracle. But with a mammoth total on board, Rinku could not do much. For himself though, Rinku once again proved why the selectors must notice him with a 33-ball 53-run knock. But KKR could only manage 186/8, losing by 49 runs.

CSK Innings Highlights:

Earlier, opting to bat, Chennai Super Kings continued their superb batting form. On a day, the Eden immersed in a sea of yellow, KKR bowlers ran for covers with Kiwi opener Devon Conway once again leading the charge with a 40-ball-56, his fourth half-century of the season.

Conway once again found a fine ally in Ruturaj Gaikwad (35 off 20) as the duo put together 73-run (45b) for the opening wicket.

There was a brief solace for KKR. The spin duo of Suyash Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Conway and Gaikwad respectively in the space of 37 runs.

With CSK run-rate going under-nine an over, Shivam Dube (50 off 21b, 2×4, 5×6) and Rahane seized the momentum with a 85-run partnership (32b).

The duo hit four sixes, and a boundary in a row to step up the run rate. It was Dube who broke free against Varun Chakravarthy en route to his 20-ball fifty.

Rahane then took his India teammate Yadav to cleaners with two sixes, including a scoop, following it up with an elegant cover drive.

Kulwant Khejroliya, who had been brought in place of Shardul Thakur, took two wickets but leaked 44 runs in his two overs. Sunil Narine was also a big let down for KKR and conceded 23 runs from his two overs without taking any wicket.

Ajinkya Rahane 2.0 shines again

A transformed Ajinkya Rahane took Eden Gardens by storm with a sensational 29-ball-71 while Shivam Dube muscled his way to another scintillating half-century in Chennai Super Kings’ imposing 235/4 against Kolkata Knight Riders in an IPL match, here on Sunday.

Long perceived as a Test batter, the 34-year-old dished out some never-seen scoop shots, ruthless pulls laced with his signature drives, en route to his second fifty of the season.

Overall, he smashed sixes fours and five sixes in his 29-ball knock that came with a 244-plus strike rate. His fifty came of just 24 balls. His tournament strike-rate among specialist batters, who have faced a minimum of 100 balls, is just a shade below 190.

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana won the toss and opted to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings. KKR have handed debut to David Weise who becomes first Namibian player to play in the IPL. KKR have also brought in Narayan Jagadeesan to replace Mandeep Singh. Weise comes in for Litton Das.
