Khabib Nurmagomedov had his first title shot in UFC 223 against Al Iaquinta. He dominated all the rounds and won the fight by unanimous decision, claiming the UFC lightweight championship. He later defended his title against Conor McGregor at UFC 229, winning in the fourth round via submission.
Khabib’s next title defense was against Dustin Poirier, whom he defeated by submission in the third round. Lastly, he defended his title for the third time against Justin Gaethje, winning by submission. Overall, Khabib defended his title on three occasions throughout his career.
Adesanya have the most numbers of title fight wins in UFC Middleweight division history
On April 13, 2019, Adesanya won the interim UFC Middleweight Championship against Kelvin Gastelum.
He then unified the title by defeating Robert Whittaker on October 6, 2019. Adesanya successfully defended his title against Yoel Romero on March 7, 2020, and Paulo Costa on September 27, 2020.
However, he moved up to the light heavyweight division and lost to Jan Błachowicz on March 6, 2021. Adesanya reclaimed the middleweight title in a rematch with Marvin Vettori on June 12, 2021.
He also defeated Robert Whittaker in a rematch on February 12, 2022. Adesanya defeated Jared Cannonier on July 2, 2022, and then suffered his first loss at middleweight to Alex Pereira on November 12, 2022.
Adesanya regained the title in a rematch with Pereira on April 8, 2023, and is set to defend it against Sean Strickland on September 10, 2023.
