By no means was McGregor’s victory a rout, as Khabib Nurmagomedov showed he could trade blows with a more skilled attacker without resorting to imposing his superior grappling skills. In the third round, McGregor outstruck Nurmagomedov 34 to 15, which is a substantial strike advantage.
The Irishman was ultimately defeated by submission in the fourth round, but Nurmagomedov won every other round of the fight to maintain his UFC lightweight title.
During the second round, an overhand right from Nurmagomedov caused the Irishman to fall to the ground, becoming him the first combatant to knock out Conor McGregor using blows.

Gaethje, who entered the fight as the interim lightweight champion, launched an aggressive attack on Nurmagomedov. However, the Russian grappling master eventually succeeded in bringing the action to the ground and taking control from there.
